Lessons Ive learned form my dogs.

Published by winds_of_the_east at 9:12 pm under pets Edit This

I have twodogs, both are just a year old. I have never owned a dog before this year, and wasn’t sure I wanted to with all the things that go with it. The house breaking, the training and just the time it takes to own a dog and doing it right.

Well when I got the first one he was just about 8 weeks old, I got him from a women just before the shelter opened for the morning. This women asked me what it was I was looking for and I told her I wasn’t sure and that I might know when and if  I seen it.

She said well if you want a dog then you can have this one, and she got back in her car and she came out with this little black and white, small puppy. He melted my heart right way. She then proceeds to tell me that she couldn’t keep due to her daughter being ill and having medical expenses for that.I left the shelter with this puppy,

The first lesson this little puppy taught me was “Don’t be afraid of any thing and just be your self and all will be well within the world”.Because when we brought him home that afternoon from getting, food a bed etc one of the neighborhoodcats  was sitting on my back fence and as soon as we sat the puppy (later named Hondo) on the ground the cat went after him, he as small as  he was didn’t even back down from the cat, in fact rather scared the cat. I don’t think the cat would have done any thing to Hondo but I didn’t get a chance to find out because after Hondo barked a few times the cat ran away and hasn’t returned since.

The next lesson I learned didn’t come to mind instill much later in my mind.Ive never really been a big social person by nature. We started taking Hondo to the local dog park, he would as most dogs do,just walk up to every one and any one and become  their friend. For me this has been teaching me that some times its good to step out of your comfort zone and just meet and grret people in ways much like that in the dog world.

One person, one step at a time, he has taught me that its good to be out and be social more and because of this my life has be come more enriched.

Lesson Three- when your hurt don’t show it and still be brave along the way,we took Hondo to have his nails trimmed and the young lady by accidentcut his nails all most all off. They of course bled, we took him to the vet, they fixed him but he was as happy and as friendly as ever, nothing in truth seems to bother him.

Lesson four- Take time and smile and smell the roses and flowers- When I take him for walk he always seems to smell all the flowers we walk by- not peeing on them but he places his nose right in them.

At this point we get my second dog from a lady who didn’t want him any longer. His name is Chase, hes about 8- 9 months old at this point, Hondo and Chase a fairly good “friendship” .At this point things  I am learning form my dogs is that you just have to make the very most out of any situation and life is good.

Chase came to us from a some what broken home, he is some times agreessive with other animals outside of the house, he has taught me that some times in order for one to be happy they just need a little extra care and love, which is maybe one of the best lessons thus far that I have learned from both of this well - amazing dogs.

I knew these things before, I just never knew that dogs can and do teach us so much about as personally, and here I thought I was going to be doing all the ” teaching”
